The Earth has had starfish for a very long time. There were starfish before
dinosaurs!
海星在地球生活很久，牠們在恐龍之前就存在了。

Sunflower stars are one kind of starfish. They're orange, yellow-red, or
purple. They're big. They can be one meter from the end of one arm to
another! Sunflower stars can have 24 arms! They can make their arms fall off!
And then new arms grow!
向日葵海星很大，牠們可能是橘色、紅黃色或是紫色，從一隻觸手的末端到另一隻觸手可以有一米長，最多有
24 隻觸手。牠們可以讓觸手掉下來，再長出新的!

Sunflower stars help keep the ocean healthy. They eat sea urchins. This helps
stop too many sea urchins from eating too much kelp. Other ocean animals need
kelp too.
向日葵海星幫助保持海洋健康。牠們會吃海膽，防止海膽把海帶吃光光，因為其他海洋動物也需要海帶！

But in the last ten years, most sunflower stars have gotten sick and died.
Scientists worry that there will be no more sunflower stars!
但是最近十年裡，大部分的向日葵海星都生病死掉了，科學家很擔心牠們就這樣消失!

But one scientist started raising these starfish five years ago. They go from
eggs to baby starfish in his lab. This summer, he put ten baby sunflower
stars into the ocean.
有一位科學家五年前開始養海星。他在實驗室裡讓海星的卵孵化出小海星，今年夏天，他把十隻小向日葵海星放進海洋裡。

The scientist hopes these sunflower stars stay healthy and safe. The ocean
needs sunflower stars!

The Pasta'ay Festival Is About Something Serious   2024.11.14 語音檔連結 The Saisiyat are one of the Indigenous Taiwanese Peoples. Long ago, there were many Saisiyat people.
